I've always loved elephants. When I was a kid they seemed unreal; large, powerful animals that walk quietly on the earth far away from where I ever thought I'd see them in real life. So it was a beautiful treat to photograph this  majestic creature.  But it wasn't in some African desert...it was actually in the San Diego Zoo. After I photographed this elephant in the zoo, I composited it with a photograph of the desert I shot while shooting a project on location in Joshua Tree, Ca. The final image that you purchase is how I choose to see this beautiful animal--free in the desert land--rather than behind the high fences confining him at the zoo for our entertainment.
